Coastal Dunes CWC Seeks Speakers
The Coastal Dunes Branch of the California Writers Club seeks authors, publishers and teachers of writing to speak to our members and guests. Our attendees are looking for information and inspiration from our speakers; they want to learn something that will aid their writing skills and to be inspired to persevere.
We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Our goal is to educate writers of all levels in the craft of writing, publishing, and the marketing of their work. Our branch’s focus is to Practice the Craft of Writing.
Speakers:
Our speakers usually talk about a specific topic related to their books or genre, and/or their “writing journey” that led to the development and publishing of their book(s). Our members also enjoy interacting with the speaker by doing a writing exercise.
About our members:
Our members and guests span all ages and genres (fiction, short story, memoir, poetry, history, essay, humor, nonfiction andscreenwriting.) We have 50+ paid members, and 300 people on our emailing list for our meeting announcements.
People who attend our meetings live in the northern part of Santa Barbara County, or in San Luis Obispo County (Lompoc on the south, all the way up to Paso Robles on the north.) Nipomo is situated in the middle, that’s where we are headquartered.
Venue Details:
We meet at the Nipomo Public Library the first Saturday of each month (unless a holiday weekend, then the 2nd Saturday). The address is: Nipomo Library, 918 West Tefft Street, Nipomo, CA, adjacent to the Nipomo skate park. We usually have 25-40 members and guests in attendance. Feel free to bring handouts, a laptop, or a flash drive to use with our computer and the library’s “smart” flat-screen TV. A white board is also available.
Schedule:
Please arrive at the library between 10:00 and 10:15 AM. Our meeting begins at 10:30 with club business, and your presentation begins approximately 10:45 – 11:00. You will have 60 to 75 minutes for your presentation, and we encourage a 15-minute Q &A period until 12:15. Plan to leave the library at 12:30 PM.
Lunch:
Members and guests are invited to join us for a no-host lunch at the Butterfly Grille at 1606 Trilogy Parkway, Nipomo, California. It is located in the Monarch Dunes Golf Club in the Trilogy community (look for golf carts in the parking lot.) Coastal Dunes will cover a meal for our speaker along with a small honorarium for mileage.
Bookselling:
Members and guests purchase a fair number of autographed books. The Nipomo Library does not permit book sales inside the library. Sales are allowed just outside the library and at the lunch venue.
How to Contact:
Go to our Contact page and put “Speaker Inquiry” in the Subject line of the form. Our Program Committee will take it from there. Please note that our Program Committee books our speakers several months in advance.
